Caregiving for a 90-year-old gentleman who weighs 73 kg and is 170 cm tall. He lives alone in his own home in an urban environment. Despite his age, he is still fully mobile, moving around both inside and outside the house without any aids, and does not require physical assistance for walking, standing up, or using the toilet. The gentleman has early-stage dementia – he recognizes people, is oriented in space and time, and can navigate outside his home independently, managing most daily tasks on his own. However, he has weaker short-term memory and occasional difficulty finding words. He can communicate clearly and engage in regular conversations. He has impaired hearing – it is necessary to speak to him clearly and from close proximity, and he also has weaker vision – he uses reading glasses. After a hospital stay, he still experiences mild circulatory problems and low iron levels. Another diagnosis is urinary incontinence (bowel movements are normal). He manages all other daily activities independently – dressing, eating, and using the toilet. Assistance is needed only for personal hygiene – primarily in terms of assistance or presence for a sense of security. Night work is not required – the client sleeps through the night and does not require assistance. The caregiver is expected to assist with meal preparation, maintaining household cleanliness, shopping, and laundry. It will also be necessary to ensure the client drinks adequately and takes his medication (which is prepared). The caregiver should accompany him to the doctor if needed, handle minor errands, and most importantly, provide companionship – spend time with him, engage in conversation, maintain a daily routine, and help with simple leisure activities. An emergency button is also being introduced for added security.

For families in Switzerland, due to high demand, the wait may extend to two months.

Of course, you can also choose another transportation method that you prefer. The caregiver pays for the journey themselves, with the family in Germany contributing €150-200 towards it, and in Switzerland 380 CHF.
In Germany, the standard length of a work period is 4 to 6 weeks, while in Switzerland it's 2 months. In the case of temporary replacements, the periods are shorter.
The salary range in Germany is between €1200 and €2200 per month on a trade license. Compensation depends on the required language and other skills, the client's health condition, and whether care is provided for an individual or a married couple. In Switzerland, the salary ranges from 2460 to 2500 CHF per month on a Swiss employment contract.
In Germany, an intermediate to good knowledge of German is most commonly required, while some families are satisfied with basic knowledge and/or require knowledge of another language, such as Czech or Russian. Families in Switzerland require good knowledge of German, though sometimes an upper-intermediate level is sufficient.
